Botox is used to help reduce the appearance of both moderate to severe frown lines between the brows and crow’s feet lines in adults. When you smile, squint or frown, the muscles in your face contract. This repetitive movement over the years combined with other environmental and lifestyle factors, causes lines and wrinkles to become permanent. Botox works by interrupting the process of muscle contraction, leaving those particular muscles unable to crease the skin. Botox is suitable for almost anyone who has wrinkles or skin lines that they want to eradicate, whether this be from natural ageing, or sun exposure lines. Botox is an anti-wrinkle injectable called Botulinum Toxin Type A.
Areas of the face that can be treated with botox
The botox procedure explained
Our specialist will inject the muscle with botox which will temporarily reduce the muscles activity and blocks signals from the nerves to the muscle. This means the infected muscle will no longer contract, which causes the wrinkles to relax and soften. The result is the appearance of smoother, younger looking skin.
Is botox right for me?
The procedure might be for you if:
- You’ve noticed lines, wrinkles around your eyes that are making your face look tired
- You want to enhance your appearance but don’t want to have cosmetic surgery such as a facelift
- You want to enhance the appearance of smoother and younger looking skin
What is botox be used for?
Treatment areas include forehead lines, frown lines, crows feet, eyebrow lift and eye wrinkles. Research has suggested that if used regularly, Botox can actually help delay and prevent the signs of ageing. As with any cosmetic procedure, it is designed to enhance your natural looks and should never be seen as essential and should be carried out responsibly.
How long does it take?
Typically a procedure will take 30 – 45 minutes (dependant on area/areas) and is usually straight forward and quick to complete. Once results start to fade away, you may return for another procedure.
How long will it last?
You will notice results within 10 to 14 days after treatment, which can last up to 3-4 months. Results will vary from person to person, sometimes clients see the effects for much longer.
Is the procedure painful?
Clients normally report only a mild discomfort, however topical anaesthetic (numbing creams) can be applied to help ease this. Side effects tend to be rare, although some clients may experience mild bruising, inflammation, tenderness, swollen skin and redness which fades within in couple of days.
How long is the recovery time after treatment?
After your treatment, you can continue your day as normal. There is minimal downtime and your specialist may give you specific aftercare instructions.
